Changes to the company computers – Information from IT

Due to the event (hack/ransomware) ScaleAQ experienced, more specifically Steinsvik, during the last part of Easter from April 10th. We have deemed it necessary to heighten our security on all our devices and IT infrastructure.

The changes mentioned in this document and further changes that ScaleAQ do implement in the future is in compliance with European Unions GDPR regulation. Since all ScaleAQ companies have/use information about European entities and/or users this will apply to all companies and departments in all countries around the world.

The security software we implement will be able to log all network traffic on the computer as well as scan all files on your devices to look for malware and other malicious software. We do not monitor user’s daily activity; we will only respond to suspected events. In such cases we will contact the users directly to inform and get approval for  investigation. We will also be able to remotely install and remove software as well as wipe the device. We will be able to control the flow of company data but not your personal data. If you have any concerns or question regarding the compliance with GDPR please contact ScaleAQ Internal IT or Human Resources.

PLEASE NOTE: This applies to Steinsvik employees only. Not ScaleAQ, Aqualine or AquaOptima employees.

Due to the event (hack/ransomware) ScaleAQ experienced, more specifically Steinsvik, during the last part of Easter from April 10th. We have deemed it necessary to heighten our security on all our devices and IT infrastructure.

This week you will all need to take backup of your files and reinstall Windows.

Guides, both written and in video, for how to accomplish this is uploaded here on the Intranet and links are also sent by email. See the bottom of this post.

What this means is that we will need to restrict access to installing applications – we will however try to make general applications available in a Company Portal on your computer. You will be able to download and install approved software through the Portal. You will also be able to install other software found in the Microsoft Store; however, you will NOT be able to install software that requires elevated permission (Administrator access).

We have made sure that once your computer is reset and reinstalled that you login using your company email address and password – you will get Microsoft Office downloaded as well as our security tools (Cisco AMP for Endpoints and Cisco Umbrella). We will also make sure your computer automatically gets the correct settings for Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft OneDrive.

During this initial start phase you will notice that there are applications you normally use that no longer are available, and we will try to accommodate this as soon as possible. This includes, but not limited to Dynamics NAV, Solidworks PDM, CAD software etc. We will work hard to make the software available to those that need it as soon as time allow us. Please be patient with us in this process.

If there is something you urgently need (urgently is the keyword here) go to IT Support portal and click Access request and fill out the form. But remember that Internal IT is working to make these change as effortless and easy as possible. Therefor expect a longer reply in all cases not deemed urgent.

We will inform users in smaller groups, when they can start this process. If you use only Microsoft Office (Incl. Word, Excel, Teams and Sharepoint etc) then you can start this process at once. If you use other software (Solidworks, CAD etc.) wait for instructions. We can however not guarantee that all the software you need will be available when you’re finished with the reinstallation.

For managers and team leaders, please inform IT through the portal mentioned above which software your department needs.

Sincerely,
ScaleAQ Internal IT
