Growth in Norwegian aquaculture has been absent during the last five years. The challenges surrounding the managing of salmon lice are one of the main reasons why growth is not allowed. This forces new concepts to arise. The industry is looking for new locations in more exposed waters, and opportunities for production in closed facilities both on land and at sea. The focus on closed facilities at sea is great, both to supply current and new more exposed sites with larger smolt, but also as separate production units for mature fish.
ScaleAQ wants to take a central position in this market, which is still in an early phase, and will now strengthen the investment in this business area. Stig Førre will take overall responsibility, and from next Monday will take on a new role as VP Development & Strategy Closed Aquaculture Systems.
The market, closed facilities at sea, is currently in an early phase, but both the authorities and the industry want growth. Currently, it is difficult to say anything concrete about the opportunities, but we believe that within a few years this business area can account for a turnover in the area of 500 MNOK to 1 MRD, and span over several of our already established business areas, ranging from software to hardware, consulting and engineering.
Stig will start in his new role immediately, but will of course for a period still have a supporting role and be central around a number of ongoing sales processes.
Geir Myklebust enters as acting CCO until a new person is in place. A well-functioning and strong sales team has been built up over the last two years, which makes this change easier.
Geir Myklebust is very pleased to have Stig starting in the newly created role;
– Over the past 25 years, Stig has been central in building both the market, and the products and solutions for the companies Steinsvik and Aqualine, and later been central in the construction of ScaleAQ. It is a fantastic opportunity we now have – to build on the experience Stig has from developing the commercial investment in open systems – and bring this with him over to closed systems, where he will work closely with all the other departments.
We have taken significant steps in the last two years to improve the company and form a strong basis for further growth. We have now identified the investment in CAS as one of the business areas we will focus on in the future. A good deal of development work has already been done that will form the basis for a strong commercial investment.
