In 2018, Hans Olav Ruø took the initiative to start a collaboration with New Zealand King Salmon – a project that began with floating collars and has since grown to include nets, moorings, feeding, and camera systems. What started as an idea has now become a complete delivery.
Sadly, Hans Olav passed away 3 years ago, but the project clearly reflects his vision and drive.

Colleagues from Norway, Iceland, and Canada have all contributed – several have even been on-site in New Zealand to build our very first floating collars there. Production is now in full swing, and we’re getting close to having the collars ready for New Zealand King Salmon.
Pete and the Oceania team are now also involved in the project, working on feeding and camera solutions.
A contract worth nearly NOK 35 million was recently signed with New Zealand King Salmon. This is the result of long-term, strategic work by many dedicated colleagues and marks the beginning of an important partnership in a new market – with a new customer.
There is also significant interest in our Subsea solutions in the region, and we expect to fill our production capacity for next year. When it comes to floating collars, we’re now more than NOK 30 million ahead of our sales budget – and NOK 70 million ahead of last year.
We are proud to be part of the Future Farming programme in New Zealand, which has strong government backing and a clear focus on innovation and sustainability. Together with our customers, we are building a more robust and future-oriented aquaculture industry – and this project shows how long-term commitment and strong collaboration truly pay off.
