Change in structure: ScaleAQ Marine Engineering

ScaleAQ Strengthens Position for Marine Constructions

ScaleAQ has, over the years, solidified its position as a global leader in technology development, engineering, and consulting for marine constructions within the aquaculture industry. Marine Engineering has been a cornerstone of our success, driving innovation and delivering exceptional solutions across international markets.

Our Marine Engineering team comprises a highly skilled group of engineers and specialists who consistently elevate the quality and performance of our products and services. Since 2014, Håkon Tønne and Martin Søreide have played pivotal roles in this development, demonstrating remarkable dedication and leadership that have been instrumental in strengthening ScaleAQ’s market position.

What Does Marine Engineering at ScaleAQ Involve?

At ScaleAQ, Marine Engineering encompasses a comprehensive range of services and solutions:

  • Development of components and equipment for aquaculture facilities
  • Design and planning of pen structures and anchoring systems
  • Design and planning of concepts for operations, maintenance, and certifications

The seamless integration of these areas ensures reliable, efficient, and future-ready solutions, backed by deep industry expertise and experience.

A unified unit for improved integration and responsibility

To further enhance our ability to deliver integrated solutions, ScaleAQ is consolidating all key disciplines—structure, hydrodynamics, design, anchoring, concept development, and documentation—into a single unit: Marine Engineering. This strategic step allows us to assume greater responsibility for our customers’ facilities and strengthens our capacity to provide unified, end-to-end solutions.

New Leadership in Marine Engineering

With this new structure comes an updated leadership team, each with a critical role in driving future growth and innovation:

Håkon Tønne

Appointed as Director of Marine Engineering, Håkon will lead the newly unified unit. Since 2013, he has excelled as Product Manager for Anchoring, positioning ScaleAQ as a market leader in this area. Håkon holds a Master’s degree in Aquaculture and brings extensive experience in quality and structural solutions. He will report to the COO for Sea-Based Operations and join the Sea-Based leadership team.

Martin Søreide

Stepping into the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for ScaleAQ SeaBased, Martin will take overarching responsibility for Marine Engineering and our Marine Constructions. Since 2014, he has led the Marine Engineering team and played a crucial role in advancing our marine construction capabilities. Martin will remain part of the Sea-Based leadership team while continuing to contribute technical expertise to Marine Engineering.

Kasper Wåsjø

As Leader for Anchoring, Kasper brings strong technical knowledge and extensive experience in anchoring aquaculture facilities. He will drive further development of the anchoring team and its operations.

Lars Andreas Larsen

Appointed as Leader for Pens and Nets, Lars will build on the strong foundations already in place for floaters and nets. Despite his young age, Lars has accumulated significant experience and is well-positioned to lead this team forward.

Magnus Theodorsen

As Leader for New Concept Development, Magnus will spearhead strategic projects aimed at creating innovative solutions that support ScaleAQ’s continued growth and market leadership.

Geir Håvard Espnes

In his role as Technical Compliance Manager, Geir Håvard will lead the Seabased Documentation unit, ensuring compliance and quality documentation for both suppliers and customers. With extensive knowledge of regulations, industry standards, and the aquaculture framework, Geir Håvard will safeguard and strengthen our industry relationships.

Strengthened competitiveness and future growth

The new structure and strong professional management give ScaleAQ a solid foundation to meet the demands of our customers and the requirements of NYTEK23 and NS9415:2021. With our expertise and our robust solutions, we will continue to contribute to the development of the aquaculture industry and do what we can to facilitate increased production.
